The phenomena of nature show us the way to lead a realistic life; that is, to accept the favourable, while avoiding the unfavourable. For, in this world there will always be a multiplicity of both pleasant and unpleasant situations.
Man bewails the calamities that strike him on earth. But if he were to realize the intensity of the coming day, he would see that all this is nothing compared to what will come to pass. Comfort and self-respect in this world make man complacent and proud. But if he were to know what was lying in store for him, he would be humble before the Lord. “Lord,” he would cry out, “worldly honour and comfort are of no consequence if they do not last through to the next, more abiding stage of life.”
In every aspect of life you have to be a realist, you have to adopt the realistic approach. You have to differentiate between what is the possible target and what is the impossible target; what is achievable and what is not achievable.
The universe around us serves as a vast model. The secret of success for man is to opt for this model in his life. But with a difference. In the rest of the universe this model is established compulsively under the law of nature, while man has to establish this model in his life consciously, of his own free will.
