Maulana Wahiduddin Khan has devoted his life to the study of the original Islamic sources–Quran and Sunnah, the life of Prophet Muhammad as well as all contemporary subjects. His research in both classical Islamic learning and modern science led him to conclude that the need of the hour was to present Islamic teachings in the style and language of the post-scientific era. His life since then has been devoted to presenting Islam in the modern idiom. To address the mind of seekers of truth, he presents the monotheistic concept of God, Hereafter and the Creation Plan of God based on scientific arguments. He removes misconceptions about Islam to reveal its true face, based as it is on peace and spirituality. The Maulana established Centre for Peace and Spirituality International to re-engineer the minds of individuals on positive lines, to spread the ideology of peace and spirituality, and conduct interfaith efforts.
Solution to Terrorism: People the world over are trying to find a solution to terrorism. The authorities are trying to crush the terror menace through legal action; western powers are trying to crush it through warfare; however, these methods are, apparently, proving ineffective. Maulana Wahiduddin Khan explains that the most important point in understanding terrorism is that it cannot be eliminated by bombs and guns. It is not a question of gun versus gun, but rather of gun versus ideology. The root cause of Muslim mlitancy is the political interpretation of Islam. Maulana Wahiduddin Khan through his various book has shown that the political interpretation of Islam has no basis in Islam and presented a counter-ideology of peace based on Islamic Scriptures. Using this material CPS and its partners have changed the mindsets of thousands of extremists, who have left violence and started working on peaceful lines. More
Ideology of Peace: People consider peace as the greatest good in the world. Peace, however, does not prevail in the world today as people are linking conditions to peace, saying “Give us justice and we will give you peace”. And people, ostensibly seeking justice, are stooping to violence, so peace does not prevail. At CPS we explain that peace is always desirable for its own sake, and every other desirable state comes after peace, not along with it. Once people become tolerant and establish peace for its own sake, what that actually does is open up opportunities—it creates favourable conditions, which enable people to strive for their ideals, eventually attaining justice and other constructive ends. Maulana Wahiduddin Khan says that the Prophet Muhammad provides a very clear historical example of the ideology of peace in his method of negotiating the Hudaybiyya peace treaty. CPS and its partners worldwide are striving to re-engineer the minds of individuals on peaceful lines to waken awakens human consciousness and present answers to life's problems in terms of peace. God-Oriented, Contemplative Spirituality: Islamic spirituality is God-oriented spirituality which is based on the concept of God Almighty, and man-oriented spirituality, which is based on man’s soul itself being the treasure-house of spirituality. And through meditation man can peep into his inner self and discover spirituality. God-oriented spirituality or Ar-Rabbaniyah is based on God-realisation. God is the treasure house of all virtues. And when contemplates on God's creation, he discovers and establishes contact with God at the psychological level. An unseen, inner revolution is brought about in one's personality which is called contemplative spirituality. In this matter, the relationship between God and man can be likened to an electric wire and the powerhouse. When the wire is connected to the powerhouse, electricity is produced, and the place is lit up. In this way, light is the result of the wire’s connection to the powerhouse of God. God-Oriented, Contemplative spirituality by awakening of the mind provides the best formula for character building and makes one a peaceful and positive person. When such positive thinking reaches a collective level in society, it results in what is known as peace. More
Purpose of Life: We see medicines accompanied by leaflets explaining what illnesses they are designed to cure, how they should be used and what their basic formulae are. But the tragedy is that man is born into the world in such a condition that he knows neither what he is nor why he has been put here. Maulana Wahiduddin Khan explains that God sent all Prophets to guide man to understand his purpose of life, another name for which is the Creation Plan of God. According to this plan, God–the Creator of man–has created man as an eternal creature and has divided his life into two stages—the pre-death period or the limited life in this world and the post death period or the eternal life after death. The period before death is meant to be a test for man, while the eternal period after his death will be the period for his reward or punishment, based on his performance in the test in this life. This is the scheme of existence for this world as devised by its Creator, God Almighty. More
Interfaith Dialogue: We are living in a world of multi-religious, multi-cultural, multi-ethnic societies, another name for which is a world of differences. A reformer has rightly said that nature abhors uniformity. This means that ‘difference’ is a part of nature and it exists in every aspect of life. In the realm of religion, today, differences are managed only through meaningful and positive ‘inter-faith dialogue’ between people of world religions. The aim of dialogue being to seek peaceful solutions to controversial matters, in spite of differences. There may be differences in religion and culture, but there is absolutely no difference or discrimination made between people in terms of respect and honour. The aim of dialogue being to seek peaceful solutions to controversial matters, in spite of differences. By giving people respect and honour, these difference will become blessings. The result will be dialogue, sharing of views – that will result in intellectual development, which is a boon for everyone concerned. More
