I do not agree with those Muslims who pray during elections. The person who prays during elections thinks that Party A is a friend of Muslims, while Party B is an enemy of Muslims. Such a person prays that Party A should win and Party B should lose. This is a very un-Islamic conduct. This is because we live in a democracy. In a democracy, only that party comes to power which is elected by the majority. We must understand God's scheme of things. God has given freedom to people. And those who elect a party into power through the democratic process are exercising this God-given freedom of theirs. So if we declare a party as our enemy, it shows our lack of awareness of God's scheme of things. If in this unawareness we pray to God to make a particular party win or another party lose, then we should know that our prayers will never be accepted. We should accept the democratic verdict. We should have love for all human beings. If we pray to God that the sun should shine only in Makkah and Madinah, and not in London or Washington, then such a prayer will never be accepted. God will give the bounty of sunlight to all persons. Similarly, people exercise their God-given freedom in a democracy and the result is that different parties come to power at different times. Muslims must accept this instead of praying that a particular party alone should come to power, while another party should never come to power.
