The Prophet's wife Ayesha once said about those people who used to read the Quran throughout the day: "They read the Quran, but they do not read it." These were the people whose mother tongue was Arabic. They used to only recite the words of the Quran, but would not try to understand its deeper meaning by contemplation and reflection. This is why, although such people would read the Quran daily, they hardly understood it.
