What is Faith | Audio
Iman or faith is the name of a very complex phenomenon. The Quran says that Prophet's past and future sins are forgiven. (48:2). In spite of this the Prophet said that he did not know what would happen with him in the Hereafter. This means that on the one hand God is bountiful and merciful to the ultimate extent, and on the other hand a person should have the feelings of humility to the last extent. So the above Quranic verse declares God's ultimate mercy while the Prophet's words reflect human helplessness. This is iman. On the one hand all my being desires Paradise, but at the same time I feel that I am not deserving of it. Faith is the name of this intricate balance. This is why the Prophet once said: Faith is between hope and fear.
