Self Criticism

Audio

Holding oneself responsible for one's mistakes is also a teaching of the Prophet. These days people make mistakes, but hold other people responsible. For example, if a person throws a stone at someone and receives a gunshot in return, he would start protesting and complaining at what the other person did. This is not a Quranic response. During the Prophet's time, Muslims suffered losses in the Battle of Uhud. Although this battle was an offensive launched by the Makkan opponents, the Quran blames the Muslims' disunity for the loss they faced. The Quran does not say that the opponents were responsible for the aggression and that it was wholly their fault. The Islamic way is to blame thyself. The right approach is to introspect and look for one's own mistakes. Self-critcism is the way of Islam.
