When a man submits himself to God, his submission should be sponta­neous and headlong, like stones tumbling down a mountainside. His unhesitat­ing capitulation before the truth should be like a landslide in its velocity and its irreversibility. God does not want man to be stubborn and arrogant when confronted with truth; He wants His servants to fall before Him in total submission and acceptance.

On an extended tour of the U.S.S.R., an American lady once pointedly registered her dislike and disapproval of the portraits of the Communist Party Chairman which she saw hanging everywhere she went. A travelling companion immediately pointed out to her in an undertone that she was in Russia now, not America.

There is a saying of the Prophet, that “the best thing in your religion is True Understanding.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 3116) On one occasion the Prophet was moved to pray for Abd Allah Ibn Abbas: “O God, give him True Un­derstanding in religion and teach him its correct interpretation.” (Musnad Ahmad, Hadith No. 2397)
