However, in 1984 at the age of 21, Allen met with a very fatal car accident. The result was that his left arm was seriously injured and had to be amputated.

Thank God as often as possible

Maulana Wahiduddin Khan I The Sunday Guardian I December 14, 2014

The Quran repeatedly tells us to remember God. This is what is known as zikrullah.

One should remember God as often as one can. There may be some distractions in which you are engaged or some work in which your mind is focused, but even these may also lead, in an indirect manner, to the remembrance of God. When your own divine feelings, your remembrance of and love and praise for God, take expression in words, then that is zikr.

Surrender before God

Maulana Wahiduddin Khan I The Sunday Guardian I December 07, 2014

In the present world, man finds himself totally free. However, this freedom does not belong to him as a matter of right, but is rather a test paper. What man has to do is to acknowledge God, and surrender to him — not by compulsion, but by his own choice.

Control anger and forgive

Maulana Wahiduddin Khan I The Sunday Guardian I November 30, 2014

Albetano, an ancient Roman philosopher, is recorded as having said: "The angry man always thinks he can do more than he can."

When a man is intoxicated with alcohol, he is not in control of himself. He may even go so far as to bang his head on a stone, unmindful of the fact that it may not be the stone that breaks but his own head. This is because, in his besotted state, he wrongly gauges his own abilities and proceeds to do things which can have unfavourable consequences.
