Politics is full of differences. If we tried to eliminate such differences, it would prove to be counterproductive. In other words, it would result in a greater evil. Hence, democracy is the answer. It is the art of difference management and means a non-confrontational settlement of differences.

What is tolerance? Tolerance is the opposite of intolerance. If you consult an English dictionary, it will tell you that tolerance means the capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others.

On 25 February, the Supreme Court ruled that fatwas and diktats by muftis had no sanction in law. The two-judge bench observed, “Anything not sanctioned by the law need not be taken cognisance by anyone. The muftis can take up any issue and give a fatwa. But this will be akin to any common man’s view on an issue.” The court’s verdict is in accordance with the sharia.
